The mechanism of bactericidal action of colistin sulfate consists in its combination with bacterial lipoproteins and violation of the permeability of the cell wall, which leads to the loss of amino acids, inorganic ions, purines, pyrimidines by the bacterial cell and causes its death.

With oral administration of the drug colistin sulfate is practically not absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, is not exposed to digestive enzymes and as a result, a high concentration of the antibiotic is created in the intestine.
